Energy Assistance

The Energy Assistance season remains open for the 2019-2020 year.

While our main offices are closed due to COVID-19, energy assistance is being provided remotely. To submit your application and supporting paperwork, email the documents required below to

The Energy Assistance Program provides a one-time per program-year grant to assist eligible low-income households with heating costs.  To apply, you must live within the city of Tacoma and meet the income guidelines. 

Payment is made directly to the heating vendor and the amount paid will be based on your last 12 months’ heating costs.

Energy Assistance Eligibility

  1. Completed Application

  2. Identification (ID’s) for those 18+ of age living in the household

  3. Social Security #’s for all living in the household

  4. Three (3) months of income (December, January, and February)

    * Due to COVID-19, we will accept 1 month of income prior to the date of application.

  5. Pay stubs showing monthly gross, or bank statements ( December, January, and February)

  6. Recent utility bill

Required forms:

Rental assistance requirements (when available)

  1. Reside in the Tacoma city limits during the rental period

  2. Have received energy assistance during the current 2019-2020 season

  3. Letter of intent signed by the landlord and returned to your case worker

  4. W9 form on file with MDC

  5. Current lease listing the applicant as a renter of the property or space
