Dually Credentialed Mental Health Professional (MHP)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides co-occurring outpatient treatment services to individuals with both mental health and substance use disorders, with goal to improve and/or reduce symptoms and resolve situational disturbances in the areas of relational, occupational, and/or vocational concerns.
  • Provides a recovery framework for all interactions with clients- allowing their voice to be paramount to their treatment plan, treatment, and goals for their life.
  • Provides strength-based co-occurring assessment utilizing DSM and ASAM criteria.
  • Collaborates with the client to develop mutually agreed upon individual service plan, driven by client choice and client preference.
  • Coordinates care with all other providers and supports, as directed and permitted by the client
  • Reviews client(s) progress, establish treatment goals, and make referrals as necessary.
  • Participates in case management and make decisions, in partnership with clients, on case management issues.
  • Provides follow up and supportive services to clients, as needed.
  • Assures confidentiality is maintained and client files are secured.
  • Maintains appropriate client records.
  • Maintains continuing education requirements for license or certification.
  • Maintains regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours.
  • May occasionally work a flexible schedule which may include evenings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Current mental health credentials from the state Department of Health (DOH) or is eligible for the DOH Agency Affiliated Counselor credential.
  • Mental Health Professional status with Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR), or ability to obtain this upon hire.
  • Current mental health credentials from the state Department of Health (DOH) or is eligible for the DOH Agency Affiliated Counselor credential.
  • Mental Health Professional status with Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR), or ability to obtain this upon hire.
  • Dually credentialed as a Chemical Dependency Professional or Chemical Dependency Professional Trainee, or ability and willingness to obtain Trainee status within 2 months of hire.
  • Experienced knowledge of the Pierce County public mental health system and community resources.
  • Solid competencies and understanding of substance use disorder treatment and co-occurring disorders treatment.
  • Pass a criminal history background check
  • Undergo a TB test or have evidence of a course of approved treatment by a physician.
  • Have a current/valid Washington State Driver’s License.
  • Must have the physical ability; to complete successfully all aspects of mental health safety training courses such as Management of Aggressive Behaviors (MOAB) or another similar training, and to move about the facility quickly to respond to emergency situations as needed.

Job Conditions:

This position performs work on-site at two MDC program locations: at the Nativity House Shelter where people who utilize the overnight and day programs can access co-occurring services on site, and at MDC’s main program building where people can access co-occurring and other MDC services.  In both locations the provider can access MDC’s EHR system and will provide integrated care with MDC and other provider agencies co-located at the Shelter and in the community.
