The Jordan Binion Project, HopeSparks, and CHI Franciscan Health’s Prevent-Avert-Respond ( PAR ) Initiative are very pleased to announce free Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainings for Pierce County parents and family members of youth with mental health challenges (youth aged 12-17 years).
Youth Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour training that emphasizes the importance of early intervention and teaches the risk factors and warning signs of mental health challenges common among adolescents, including anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, AD/HD, disruptive behavior disorders, and substance use disorders.
The training includes role-playing and simulations to help parents and family members learn how to assess mental health crises; interact with and assist their child; and help them connect to professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
Youth MHFA trainings for parents and family members will be offered 3-4 times/year, and will include lunch and manuals to take home.
The first training will be on Saturday May 6, 8:30-5:00 PM, at HopeSparks in Tacoma. Please see the attached training flyer for more information, including the next two training dates in July and October.
Pierce County parents and family members can register for the May 6 training (and July and October trainings) by emailing their: 1) name, 2) email address, and 3) phone number to Deb Binion, at deborah@jordanbinionproject.org.
